Navigating the Complexities of Biden's Candidacy: A Call for Unity and Focus

I'm deeply conflicted about the discourse surrounding Biden.

We have had chances to elect dynamic women who are sharp and capable of leading our country, yet sexism and misogyny permeate both sides of the political spectrum, whether we acknowledge it or not. Similarly, opportunities to elect young men of color have been thwarted by the pervasive racism that divides our nation.

Our political system is essentially a duopoly, heavily influenced by the same special interests on both sides. Corporate interests have a stranglehold on our elected officials, driving deregulation for financial gain. My experiences in politics have made me grapple with a sense of nihilism, a sentiment I know many others share.

I don’t have the definitive solution. However, I'm concerned that our indifference and lack of commitment to the current Democratic nominee could lead us further down a path toward fascism and autocracy. While I hesitate to question Biden's mental agility, especially when his competitor seems less capable, I must recognize that Biden has been more impactful than the last four presidents combined. His domestic influence is comparable to that of FDR. The potential re-election of Trump would have devastating long-term consequences, particularly for our judiciary.

Indeed, having a younger president, a female president, or a millennial president would be ideal. But Democrats have historically struggled to unite behind a single candidate. With just two months until the DNC, it seems nearly impossible to rally the party behind someone new.

The primary goal must be defeating Trump. While I demand more from our government, now may not be the time for drastic change. Democrats need to prioritize their objectives, with defeating Trump at the forefront. Biden must demonstrate mental agility, and we must empathize with the immense pressure he faces as a candidate.

I plan to share more of my thoughts on this election cycle soon, from the perspective of a concerned citizen, and I welcome your insights as events unfold.
