We Rise

for Transit

Moving New York forward.

The pandemic showed us how critical transit is to the health of our communities. Decades of disinvestment in public transit have left riders regularly experiencing delays and rising fares. Many riders face unacceptable barriers to basic access, particularly people with disabilities, families with children, and low-income New Yorkers. Access to public transit, multi-modal transit, and green infrastructure is critical to ensuring our residents can navigate our neighborhoods.

With a landmark infrastructure bill, the Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act, New York has Federal dollars to create jobs and improve our transit infrastructure.

  • • This will result in more than $1 billion annually towards modernizing our transit system:

    ◦ New, energy-efficient, subway cars and buses;

    ◦ Modern signal technology to prevent subway delays;

    ◦ Repairs to stations;

    ◦ Reduce crowding in our stations with wider platforms and improved vertical circulation

  • • Provide subsidized fares for Bronx residents utilizing Metro-North lines at the price of an average subway ride.

  • • Ensure ADA accessibility and compliance across our subway system.

  • • Extend Ferry Service to City Island.

    • Expand access to JFK and LaGuardia Airports through the creation of an Orchard Beach Ferry stop.

    ◦ Subsidize the cost of the Ferry by offering paid parking in Orchard Beach’s underutilized parking lot.

  • • Providing Cross-Bronx access.

    • Access to New Jersey Transit.

    • Connecting Metro North’s Harlem and Hudson Lines.

  • • Fund an additional $175 million for EV fast chargers near highways.

    • Expand the EV make-ready program for heavy-duty vehicles (buses and trucks).

  • • I will support the Green Transit Green Jobs Bill.

    ◦ Working to phase in electric buses.

    ◦ Requiring all agencies to only purchase electric buses by 2029.

    ◦ Focusing on how to transition the diesel bus industry workforce to an electric one.

    ◦ Encouraging apprenticeship programs to assist workers in this transition to well-paying jobs.

  • • New York’s greenway system is more a collection of fragments than a cohesive network:

    ◦ Create safe and user-friendly connections between trails and nearby transit.

    ◦ Ensure the completion of the Empire State Trail.

    ◦ Allocate funding and support the daylighting of Tibbetts Brook.
